God is not a white man.
Hello, hello world! I never thought I would be someone who would start a blog. Yeah, yeah I was just another girl who thought I was somehow...above blogging. Snort. Anywho, here I am now.
For the first month or so, I'm going to be blogging on well, God. Often times, I find that I forget just who God truly is. There are many facets of God, and there have been countless times where I have seen God sugar coated and stuffed into an elaborately wrapped box. In fact, many of us unknowingly idolize something we think is the Almighty, but is simply some false imagery or idea of Him. It reminds me of this song by Gungor, aptly titled, "God is not a white man."
It's a cutesy video and song, but the message is a clear one. God is not anything man can fathom to create, and so anything one thinks is God, simply is not. I am going to attempt to break away from this cookie cutter God, and try to learn about who HE really is.
I'm going to start with this site I found, which lists 30 names and attributes of God. It's a pretty good list, scripture based and tackles one of God's names or attributes a day. I'm also going to supplement my learning with A.W. Tozer's The Knowledge of the Holy and additional scripture. This is going to be a challenging experience, and one that will completely change how I view the very Creator of the universe.
Dear LORD,
I pray that you will guide my journey towards you, and bless me with the wisdom to understand who You really are. I pray that my mind and my heart will be open to receiving your message, and that I don't forget who You are for one moment. I praise you for being You, and thank you for your grace and mercy. For it is through your grace alone that I am saved and allowed to know You. LORD, you are mighty to save and worthy of all of my time. In Christ's name I pray,
Amen.
Oh yeah, and I really like puns, so I'm going to share a joke with each post, too.
